Frequently Asked Questions

What issues do you specialize in?

1

At SBH, our focus is on identity development, relational conflict, burnout, perfectionism, high-performance stress, and coping with major life transitions. We see clients ranging from young adults (21+) to older adults (mid-80s), and we specialize in working with the "sandwich generation" (ages 30–60). These individuals are often raising children while caregiving for aging parents or ill family members, all while managing careers and high levels of stress. Together, we explore the impact of several factors, such as physical distance from family, family dynamics, cultural expectations, guilt, shame, and financial relationships. We work to gradually alleviate symptoms and move toward wellbeing by addressing burnout, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, loneliness, grief, fertility, identity, postpartum issues, men’s issues, aging, and stressors from major life transitions.

Do you accept insurance?

2

Suvi Behavioral Health is a private pay practice and does not participate with insurance networks. However, we are happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Clients can use Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts to pay for therapy.

If you would like to contact your insurance provider to determine your benefits for out-of-network therapy, here are some questions for you to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?

  • What are my benefits for out-of-network therapy services?

  • What is my deductible for out-of-network services and has it been met?

  • How much will insurance reimburse me for out-of-network therapy services (for CPT codes 90834, 90837, and 90791)?

  • Do I need pre-authorization or a referral from my primary care doctor in order to see a therapist?

What is your privacy policy?

3

Your privacy is a top priority at Suvi Behavioral Health. All sessions and records are kept strictly confidential in accordance with federal and state laws, as well as professional ethics. We do not sell any personal information under any circumstances. Communications—including phone calls, emails, and SMS messages—are handled through secure, HIPAA-compliant systems and cannot be sold or used for marketing purposes. We collect only the minimum information necessary for licensing compliance and to build an effective therapeutic relationship: your name, contact information, and date of birth. Information you share will not be disclosed without your written permission, except in cases where it may be legally or ethically required to do so—such as if you are at risk of harming yourself or others, or if there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult.

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

4

Individual and couples sessions are typically 45-minutes. Most clients begin with weekly sessions, but frequency may shift depending on your goals and progress. Co-lead couples involving two therapist and the couple, and group formats vary in length and structure.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

5

Yes. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual sessions for clients located in Virginia. Coaching services may be available across state lines.

Can you prescribe medication?

6

No—we do not prescribe medication. Our work focuses on talk therapy and relational process, not pharmacological treatment.

If we decide that medication might be a helpful part of your care, we can refer you to a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or primary care provider who specializes in medication management. We are also happy to coordinate with your prescriber to support a collaborative approach to your care.

How is therapy different from coaching?

7

Therapy tends to focus on emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and personal history. Coaching is more future-focused and action-oriented, often centered around identity, leadership, and purpose in the context of work and creativity. We’ll determine together which approach fits best.

How do I know if this is the right fit for me?

8

The best way to find out is to schedule a brief free consultation call. There’s no pressure. The goal is to explore whether working together feels right with the feelings that are coming up for you—and what you want to move toward.
